Papyrus production revisited: differences between ancient and modern production modes

چکیده
Abstract Papyrus, produced from the white pith of Cyperus papyrus L., has been used for millennia as major writing support by ancient cultures, but there was no continuous production until modern times. Therefore, had to be rediscovered. Modern Egyptian producers claim that their sheets possess ‘the same physical and chemical properties papyri’. To study if this is accurate, commercially available were compared papyri according Pliny’s historic description. Material characterization performed with a focus on potentially color-bearing lignin. Two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, derivatization followed reductive cleavage, pyrolysis–gas chromatography/mass spectrometry complemented microscopy tests surface pH sodium content. The lignin data in native commercial 10 samples Papyrus Museum Vienna. analytical clearly show involvement strong alkaline treatment chlorine bleaching papyri, expressed higher values, altered structures, chlorinated compounds. inclusion an step manufacture discussed dismissed, since alkali-treatment causes huge decrease content, not found analysed specimen. We assume additional introduced obtain yellowish meeting optical expectations spectators. Linguistic art evidence indicates such would have made sense antiquity, it desired produce papyri.

Individual differences and development of speech act production
This study examined the effects of individual difference (ID) factors on changing pragmatic abilities among L2 learners of English. Participants were 48 Japanese EFL students in an English-medium university in Japan. They completed a pragmatic speaking test (k=12) that assessed their ability to produce two speech acts: requests and opinions, in hi...
متن کاملThe Pattern of Cytokine Production In Vitro Induced by Ancient and Modern Beijing Mycobacterium tuberculosis Strains
It is unclear to what extent the host-responses elicited by Beijing versus non-Beijing strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) contribute to the predominance of modern Beijing strains in Taiwan and some other Asian countries. The purpose of this study was to compare the expression profiles of virulence-related genes in human monocyte-derived macrophages infected in vitro with Beijing (ancie...

Relationship between Meta-Technology Ratios and Varietal Differences in Date Production (Case Study of Sistan and Baluchestan, Iran)
This paper uses the concept of Meta-frontier to investigate the relationship between Meta Technology Ratios (MTR) and different varieties in datepalms including; Mazafati, Rabi and Zardan that are produced widely in Sistan and Baluchestan province of Iran. We used a stratified sampling of 300 date farmers of this province in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and estimated a stochastic production frontier usi...
